S corporation: what it costs a year in each state (2026)
A tax election, not a kind of company. An LLC or a corporation files Form 2553 and is then taxed as an S corp: the owner takes a salary with payroll tax, and the rest of the profit passes to the owner's return without self-employment tax.
At $100,000 of profit an LLC taxed as an S corp costs from $17,829 a year (Texas) to $27,712 (Hawaii) in tax and fees. The full guide.
